Joseph L. Mankiewicz was a producer at MGM whose films included The Philadelphia Story, Woman of the Year, Reunion in France, and more. He also worked as a writer, and began directing in 1946. He’s best known for writing and directing All About Eve in 1951, for which he won best director and best screenplay at the Oscars (the film won six awards total, including best picture).
