Paul Robeson was an African-American actor and singer who began his screen career in the mid-twenties and worked with filmmaking including Oscar Micheaux, Zoltán Korda, James Whale, and more. He quit acting for the screen after Tales of Manhattan in 1942. He also narrated the documentary Native Land.
